Salinas Varsity Cowboys Captures Lead Late In Victory Over Monterey

Salinas Varsity Cowboys snatched the lead late in their 3-2 victory over Monterey on Saturday. The game was tied at two in the top of the seventh when Janelle Ramirez doubled, scoring one run.

Both teams were strong in the circle. Salinas Varsity Cowboys pitchers struck out six, while Monterey sat down eight.

A solo home run to right field by Eastin Jennings put Monterey on the board in the bottom of the second.

Salinas Varsity Cowboys jumped back into the lead in the top of the fourth inning after Kelsie Domenighini singled to center field, and Abi Jones grounded out, each scoring one run.

Jennings singled down the right field line, which helped Monterey tie the game at two in the bottom of the sixth.

Jones earned the win for Salinas Varsity Cowboys. The starter gave up five hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking three. Ella Myers took the loss for Monterey. The hurler went seven innings, giving up three runs on nine hits, striking out eight and walking none.

Gigi Rossi and Jessica Cisneros each collected two hits for Salinas Varsity Cowboys. Ramirez, Jones, and Domenighini each drove in one run for Salinas Varsity Cowboys. Salinas Varsity Cowboys turned one double play in the game. Salinas Varsity Cowboys were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Demarie Fernandez had the most chances in the field with six.

Jennings provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Monterey with two runs batted in. Jennings went 3-for-3 on the day. Monterey were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Denae Lee made the most plays with eight.
