Week
6 By The Numbers
|
22 |
The
ball-hawking Pacific Grove defense has forced a quad-league
area best 22 turnovers through six games.
|
14 |
Monte
Vista Christian has area's longest losing streak with 14
straight losses. The silver lining for the Mustangs: entering
the season the area's longest losing streak was held by Live
Oak (22 games), yet the Acorns are now the only undefeated
team remaining in the quad-league area.
|
13 |
After
a week 5 that saw only 4 quad-league
players rush for 100 or more yards, 13 local ball
carriers cracked the century mark in week 6.
|
8 |
8
different players scored touchdowns for Pacific Grove in a
64-22 route of Greenfield.
|
7 |
Quad-league
defenses have posted 7 shutouts this season:
- Carmel
(vs. Soledad)
- Gilroy
(vs. Gunn)
- Live Oak
(vs. Alvarez)
- Monterey
(vs. Alvarez)
- North
Monterey County (vs. Gonzales)
- North
Salinas (vs. Gonzales)
- Seaside
(vs. Washington-Fremont)
|
0 |
Santa
Cruz and Pacific Grove have not allowed a first quarter score
this season. No other team has a shutout quarter.
|
0 |
No
defense has held Gilroy running back Justin Sweeney to under
100 yards rushing this season.
|
Note:
We still need game stats from :
Seaside
vs. Washington (Fremont)
Carmel vs. Branham
Monterey vs. King City
Any
help getting us the score by quarter, scoring breakdown and
individual game stats would be greatly appreciated.

Quotes
of the Week
|
Jeff
Carnazzo |
Monterey
County Herald |
"We
came in with a balanced attack," Palma coach Jeff
Carnazzo said. "Salinas took some things away from us
that opened up our running game. That's our comfort
zone." |
|
Bill
Garrison |
Santa
Cruz Sentinel |
"Our
establishing a ground game really limited their offensive
opportunities," said Aptos coach Bill Garrison.
"We were prepared (for Scotts Valley to throw the
ball), but not prepared for how precise their quarterback
can be." |
|
Chris
Cameron |
Hollister
Freelance |
"If
they are going to doing that, its fine as long as they
are going to be consistent throughout the game, said
Baler coach Chris Cameron. They were out to set the
record straight early. High school football in general is
out to get rid of that, getting away from what kids see on
TV. |
|
Darren
Yafai |
Gilroy
Dispatch |
We
are proud of the kids, Yafai said. They battled from
toe to toe and they never gave up.
As a staff
and as players, were still hurting, he said. But we
know theres still four games to go. Weve told our kids
they just had a huge battle and found out they could play
with the best of them. Now its up to them."
|
|
Craig
Johnston |
Monterey
County Herald |
"So
far, I'm very pleased," Padres head coach Craig
Johnston said. "One of the biggest questions we had
entering the season was our offensive line. For being so
young, they've done a great job." |
|
Todd
Buller |
Monterey
County Herald |
"Overall,
we had played good defense. We just had that big
mistake," Breakers assistant Todd Buller said. "At
halftime told the guys what we always tell them. Stick to
the game plan and make tackles." |
|
Germano
Diniz |
Monterey
County Herald |
"It
was the Ian Morrison show," Stevenson coach Germano
Diniz said. "That was the best execution we've
had," Diniz said, reflecting back on his two seasons as
the varsity head coach. |
|
Pete
Noble |
Monterey
County Herald |
"When
we want to be, we can be as good as anyone around". |
