Week
3 By The Numbers
|
12 |
Salinas
has already committed 12 turnovers in just 4 games; the
Cowboys only turned the ball over 18 times all last season. |
10 |
Gilroy
running back Justin Sweeney leads the area with 10
touchdowns. Sweeney's 60 points exceeds the entire season
scoring output of 16 area teams. |
10 |
The
T-CAL is an impressive 10-2 vs. quad-league area teams.
Of concern is the league's 1-4 record thus far vs. the West
Catholic Athletic League, which will likely place four to five
teams in the new open playoff division. |
6 |
Entering
week four, 6 teams (Scott's Valley, Santa Cruz, Soquel,
Monterey, Gilroy and Live Oak) remain undefeated. Of the
combined 19 wins, only 5 have come over teams with a winning
record. |
6 |
It
was a tough week for the Mission Trail Athletic League;
members went 1-6 over the weekend, and are just 5-15
overall this season. Only Pacific Grove (2-1) has a winning
record entering league play. |
3 |
Scott's
Valley leads all area teams with 3 defensive touchdowns
- the Falcon defense has scored in every contest. |
1 |
Area
teams are just 1-6 vs. the West Catholic Athletic
League. |
0 |
SCCAL
haves and have-nots: 3 teams remain
undefeated, while 3 teams have yet to register a victory. |
0 |
Through
three games the Santa Cruz defense has yielded 0 points
in quarters 1-3, and only 7 points overall this season. Of the
area-fewest 16 points surrendered (all in the 4th quarter) by
the Cardinals, 2 points were scored via safety, and 7 points
on a late kickoff return. |
Note:
We still need game stats from :
Seaside
vs. Washington (Fremont)
Carmel vs. Branham
Monterey vs. King City
Any
help getting us the score by quarter, scoring breakdown and
individual game stats would be greatly appreciated.

Quotes
of the Week
|
Chris
Cameron |
Hollister
Free Lance |
"We
have been positioning ourselves for week 10 for the league
championship against Palma, Cameron said Friday. We do
not fear that team in Salinas. |
|
Mike
Ironsides |
Monterey
County Herald |
"That's
just a better football team," Salinas coach Mark
Ironsides said. "But it was a much better second half
than the first." |
|
Sunil
Smith |
Monterey
County Herald |
"We
played well tonight, but we've still got a lot of things to
clean up," Smith said. "We're happy, but we're not
satisfied." |
|
Darren
Yafai |
Gilroy
Dispatch |
Weve
got a really good mix of line and skill players. said GHS
head coach Darren Yafai, whose team has a bye week before a
Oct. 9 trip to North Monterey County. Right now I think
we have a great offense.
But like
the rest of the team, the proof is in how we finish the
season.
|
|
Pete
Michaletos |
Fremont
Argus |
"We
weren't prepared to play them," Kennedy coach Pete
Michaletos said. "They (Soquel) have one of the best
offensive lines I've seen. We couldn't break up their
continuity." |
|
Pete
Noble |
Monterey
County Herald |
"We
don't know how to handle winning," said Monterey coach
Pete Noble, whose team improved to 3-0. "They thought,
'We should beat King City.' But those (King City) kids don't
quit. We have to get over this." |
|
Glen
Webb |
Morgan
Hill
Times |
This
was the kind of team (Seaside) that had that who knows what
could happen next feel to it, Webb said. This is the
kind of game we would have lost in the past few years. |
|
Louie
Walters |
Santa
Cruz Sentinel |
"Were
not that team," Walters promised. "Were
(Scott's Valley) much better this year. Different year,
different kids. Every day, this group works hard and sets
goals." |
