The Scotts Valley Falcons girls varsity soccer team traveled to Danville, California to compete in the prestigious Christmas Tri Valley Soccer Tournament. The Falcons were placed into the Gold division competing against schools that had twice their student population and known to be powerhouses in women's soccer. The schedule included two games on December 19th and two games on December 20th. The tournament would test the Falcons skill and endurance both physically and mentally. The teams in the tournament represented all of California, Hawaii and Nevada. The first game of the tournament was against the Monte Vista Mustangs from Danville, California. The Mustangs had a student enrollment of 2170 and had a 2011 preseason record of 2 wins, 0 losses and 3 ties going into the tournament. The Mustangs had a young team with 12 freshmen and sophomores. The Mustangs final record in 2010-11 was 13 wins, 7 losses and 3 ties. The Mustangs are known for their rich history of success in their girls soccer program. The first half showed both teams working hard to gain the advantage and put together passes to create an attack. The first half was fairly even but the lady Falcons held the advantage with 4 shots on goal compared to the Mustangs 1 shot on goal. The first half ended with the score being, Falcons 0 to the Mustangs 0. The second half was also very even with both teams being shut down by the others defense. The second half had the Mustangs with 4 shots on goal while the Falcons managed 3 more shots on goal. The game ended with the score being, Falcons 0 to the Mustangs 0. Falcons having a good game were goalkeeper junior captain Emily Johnson. Also playing very well was sweeper senior captain Jordin Carlson, stopper senior captain Kalynn Morano and forward junior Kacey Lilly. Having a good game at the midfield positions were junior captain Madison Black, senior Ranae Maloney, senior Jessica Romeo, junior Rachel DuBridge and sophomore Lena Gustafsson. Forwards senior captain Emily Payne, senior Taylor Rohde and senior Sonja Gustafsson also had a solid game. |
