Scotts Valley Notes and Quotes
On January 6th the Scotts Valley Falcons traveled to San Lorenzo Valley High to play on the Cougars field. The weather was fair and the field conditions were very good. The Cougars entered the game with a preseason record of 4 wins, 2 loses and 1 tie. The Cougars league record was 0 wins and 1 loss. The Falcons are very young and still working on their chemistry and teamwork.

The game started with both teams trying to build an attack and pressure the opposition. After several failed attempts to put the ball in the back of the Cougar net the Falcon ladies scored in the 31st minute when Junior Captain Jordin Carlson punched the ball into the net after a good pass from Sophomore Olivia Gonzalez. The Falcons quickly struck again in the 36th minute when Junior Taylor Rohde settled a free kick from the Cougar goalkeeper and put in a line drive shot into the goal from 15 yards out. The Falcons had 7 shots on goal in the first half while the Cougars were kept from putting any shots on the Falcons goal. The half ended with the score being, Falcons 2 to Cougars 0.

The second half had both teams come out with a focus and energy to control the game. The Falcons scored in the 67th minute when fullback Freshman Megan Keating took a back pass from midfielder Sophomore Madison Black and fired it over the Cougar goalkeeper from 25 yards out. The Falcons quickly initiated another attack in the 72nd minute when Taylor Rohde out ran the defense down the left wing and placed a beautiful cross to the middle of the field where Freshman Lena Gustafsson one touched the ball out of the air into the goal from approximately 10 yards out. The second half had the Falcons with 8 more shots on goal and again the Cougars were kept with no shots on goal. The final score ended up the Falcons 4 to Cougars 0.

The Falcon goalkeeper was Senior Ali Ayers who did a fine job coordinating the defense. The Falcon defense had another game with good speed, effective tackles and a constant pressure on the Cougar offensive attack. The defense was led by Senior Captain Aly Bothman, Junior Captain Kalynn Morano, Sophomore Kacey Lilly, Sophomore Rachel DuBridge and Megan Keating.

The midfield for the Falcons had a good game settling the ball, controlling the middle, assisting with the offensive attack and getting back for defense. The midfield was led by Junior Captain Emily Payne, Sophomore Madison Black, Lena Gustafsson, Junior Renae Maloney, Junior Kathryn Balch, Junior Jessica Romeo and Senior Pim Tamavimoke.

The forwards for the Falcons had an awesome game putting relentless pressure on the Cougar defense and goal. The forwards had numerous shots towards the Cougar goal that nearly missed.
