The Scotts Valley Falcons played the Harbor Pirates on January 12, 2010 at Depot Park in Santa Cruz. The weather was cloudy and raining while the field was wet. The Harbor Pirates entered the game with a record of 4 wins, 0 losses and 2 ties. The Pirate ladies are very talented and well coached. The first half started with both teams playing hard and trying to mount an attack in the wet conditions. The Falcons scored in the 12th minute when Jordin Carlson kicked in a goal after the assist from Kailey Payne. The Falcons scored again in the 38th minute when Jordin Carlson drilled in a goal after the pass from Emily Payne. The first half had the Falcons with 7 shots on goal while the Pirates had 0 shots on goal. The half ended with the score being Scotts Valley 2 to Harbor 0. The second half started with both teams playing intense and physical. The Falcon ladies consistently controlled the middle of the field and mounted attacks on the goal. The Harbor team worked hard to stop the Falcon offense and kept them out of their net. The Falcons had 5 shots on goal the second half while the Pirates had 1 shot on goal. The game ended with the score being Scotts Valley 2 to Harbor 0. The defense for the Falcon ladies played fantastic. The Falcon defense played aggressive and stopped the Pirate offense most of the game. The defense was led by fullbacks, senior captain Brittany Kuo and senior Kelsey Baskovich who had very good games. Also contributing to the great defense was sophomore Kalynn Morano and freshman Kacey Lilly. Goalkeeper, freshman Emily Johnson played a solid game directing the defense and saved 1 shot on goal during the game. The Falcon defense was again spectacular in registering their 7th shutout in 10 games. The Falcon midfield played fabulous against the talented and skilled Pirate midfielders. The Falcon midfield was led by senior captain Kailey Payne, freshman Madison Black and sophomore captain Jordin Carlson who all played strong against the Pirates star midfielders. Also playing extremely well were senior Amy McDowell, senior Michelle Hunter, junior captain Aly Bothman, sophomore Ranae Maloney and sophomore Kathryn Balch. The Falcon forwards played a great game also with several good runs and breakaways. The forwards battled in the air, on the ground and played with speed. They were led by sophomore Emily Payne, junior Keara McCullough, sophomore Taylor Rohde and senior Riley McFall. |
