The Scotts Valley Falcons played the Gilroy Mustangs in Gilroy. The weather was cloudy with excellent field conditions. The Mustang ladies entered the game with 0 wins, 2 losses and 2 ties. The Mustang ladies are very good, well coached and skilled soccer players. The first half started with both teams coming out aggressive. The Falcons immediately put pressure on the Mustang net and scored in the 6th minute when Emily Payne fired in a goal after a beautiful pass from Keara McCullough. Both teams then went back and forth trying to mount an attack. The first half had the Falcons with 3 shots on goal while the Mustangs also had 3 shots on goal. The half ended with the Falcons 1 to Mustangs 0. The second half had the Mustangs coming out fast and aggressive. The ball went back and forth with both teams stopping the others offensive attack. The second half ended with the Falcons having 1 shot on goal while the Mustangs had 3 shots on goal. The game ended with the score Scotts Valley 1 to Gilroy 0. The Falcon ladies played a tough game against a good opponent. The defense was led by freshman goalkeeper Emily Johnson who had 6 saves during the game and the shutout. The young Falcon defense played well against the skilled Mustang ladies. The defense was led by senior Kelsey Baskovich, sophomore captain Jordin Carlson, sophomore Kalynn Morano and freshman Kacey Lilly. The Falcon midfield played a gritty game and neutralized the talented Mustang midfielders. The midfield was led by senior Amy McDowell, junior captain Aly Bothman, senior Michelle Hunter, freshman Madison Black and senior captain Kailey Payne. Also contributing to the midfield was sophomore Ranae Maloney and sophomore Kathryn Balch. The Falcon forwards played with heart and consistently made runs on the opposing net. The forwards were led by sophomore Emily Payne, junior Keara McCullough, senior Riley McFall and sophomore Taylor Rohde. |
