The Scotts Valley Falcons played the Valley Christian Warriors in San Jose. The field conditions were excellent while the weather was cloudy and cold. The Warriors have an excellent girls soccer program, they are well coached and prepared. The lady Warriors entered the game with a 1 win, 1 loss season so far. The first half started with both teams trying to control the ball and initiate an attack on the others goal. Scotts Valley controlled the tempo and put 7 shots on the Warrior goalie. The Warriors had 1 shot on goal during the first half. The lady Warriors team fought through the attacks and did not allow a goal in the first half. The score at half time was Scotts Valley 0 to Valley Christian 0. The second half was also played with intensity. The lady Warriors scored in the 52nd minute when the ball was kicked into the net after a rebound off the Falcon goalie. The Scotts Valley ladies continued to control the ball and put constant pressure on the Warrior defense. The Warriors defense held and did not allow a goal. The second half had the Warriors with 2 shots on goal while the Falcons had 3 shots on goal. The final score was, Valley Christian 1 to Scotts Valley 0. The Falcon's defense played very well and countered the Warrior attack most of the game. The defense was led by freshman goalkeeper Emily Johnson who had 2 saves during the game. The defense was also led by senior captain Brittany Kuo, Senior Kelsey Baskovich, sophomore Kalynn Morano and freshman Kacey Lilly. The Falcon midfield played aggressive, controlled the ball and initiated an offensive attack most of the game. The midfield was led by senior captain Kailey Payne, sophomore captain Jordin Carlson, junior captain Aly Bothman, senior Amy McDowell and freshman Madison Black. Also contributing to the midfield was sophomore Ranae Maloney and junior Jessica Dibble. The forwards showed their speed while putting relentless pressure on the Warrior defense. The forwards and midfielders put 10 shots on the Warrior goalkeeper during the game. The forwards were led by sophomore Emily Payne, sophomore Taylor Rohde, senior Michelle Hunter and junior Keara McCullough. |
