The Scotts Valley Falcons Girls Varsity Soccer team played a tough Monte Vista Christian team in Watsonville. The Falcons started the scoring in the 2nd minute of play when Amy McDowell scored a goal after the assist from Emily Payne. The second goal was in the 6th minute when Amy McDowell kicked the ball in the net after the assist from Keara McCullough. The third goal was scored by the Falcons in the 7th minute when Keara McCullough scored after the assist from Kalynn Morano. The fourth goal scored by the Falcons was in the 9th minute when Kailey Payne headed the ball into the goal after the assist from Brittany Kuo. The Falcons scored in the 19th minute when Keara McCullough kicked the ball into the net after the assist from Emily Payne. The score at halftime was, Scotts Valley 5 to Monte Vista 0. The second half started with both teams playing aggressively. The Falcons scored in the 42nd minute when Jordin Carlson kicked the ball into the goal on a penalty kick after being fouled in the box. The Falcons scored in the 69th minute when Sydnie Reyes kicked in a goal after the assist from Brittany Kuo. The final score was, Scotts Valley 7 to Monte Vista 0. The Falcons were led by their goalies, freshman Emily Johnson and junior Ali Ayers. The defense played very well by stopping the oppositions attack, settling the ball and initiating the counter attack. The defense was led by senior captain Brittany Kuo, senior Kelsey Baskovich, sophomore Kalynn Morano and freshman Kacey Lilly. The Falcon midfield controlled the ball, continued the attack, played smart and aggressive. The midfield was led by senior captain Kailey Payne, junior captain Aly Bothman, senior Amy McDowell and freshman Madison Black. Also having an impact while contributing to the midfield control of the ball was senior Michelle Hunter, sophomore captain Jordin Carlson, senior Sydnie Reyes and sophomore Ranae Maloney. The offensive attack of the Falcons was persistent and showed their speed. The forwards were led by junior Keara McCullough and sophomore Emily Payne. Forwards sophomore Taylor Rohde, senior Riley McFall and sophomore Kathryn Balch also added to the constant attack on the net. The Falcon ladies played a good game that showed a balance of speed, skills and a relentless pressure on the opposing team. |
