King City Varsity Mustangs Defeat Pacific Grove In Nail-Biter Despite seeing their 5-run lead whittled down by the end, King City Varsity Mustangs still held off for an 8-6 victory on Thursday. Pacific Grove closed the gap by scoring on a single, a walk, a ground out, a double, and a sacrifice bunt. Pacific Grove were the first to get on the board in the first when Alex Giammanco hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. King City Varsity Mustangs flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs on three hits to take the lead, 6-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Amity Hearne following a 6-pitch at-bat that drove in two. King City Varsity Mustangs scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth on an inside the park home run by Avery Munoz. Alizah Carrillo earned the win for King City Varsity Mustangs. The starting pitcher allowed seven hits and six runs (four earned) over seven innings, striking out six and walking five. Giammanco took the loss for Pacific Grove. The pitcher went six innings, giving up eight runs on five hits, striking out nine and walking four. Munoz went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Hearne led King City Varsity Mustangs with two hits in three at bats. Kendra Pottharst, Giammanco, Dylan Llantero, Destiny Buckles, and Paige Houston each drove in one run for Pacific Grove. Isis Turner led Pacific Grove with three hits in four at bats. Llantero led Pacific Grove with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up five walks for the game. |
