Notes

Mountain
View opened the first round of the CCS D IV playoffs
with a thrilling 36-35 victory over #5 seed San Mateo.
Although Spartan quarterback Sean Manson
completed 27 of 35 passes for 372 yards and three
touchdowns, it was his game winning two-point
conversion pass to Jeff Eckenhoff with
2:24 remaining in the game that enabled the Spartans
to move on to the semifinals. Mountain View's Cody
Holmes hauled in 14 passes for 237 yards and a
touchdown, while Eckenhoff caught six balls for 85
yards and a touchdown. San Lorenzo Valley, the state's
#5 ranked team in Division III, has allowed only 90
points this season (8.2 points per game), and the
quad-league area's most balanced attack is ranked #1
with 3850 total yards of offense. |

Notes
|
|
The
Cowboys hope to do what Palma could not: stop WCAL
Back of the Year Jarred Belser. The standout
Division 1 prospect rushed for 161 yards and a
touchdown in the Bell's 17-7 CCS first round victory
over Palma. The Salinas defense should be up to the
task: the Cowboys have allowed a quad-league best 895
yards rushing (81 Y.P.G.) this season, and only 7.8
points per game. Bellarmine
quarterback Paul Gonzales (66 of 119
passes for 1,061 yards and 9 touchdowns in the regular
season) demonstrated a lot of poise in the pocket,
completing some very long 3rd down passes last week to
keep drives alive. A Salinas victory would put the
defending CCS D II champions into their first CCS
Division I title game since 1979. |
