      | Week 11 By
        The Numbers |
      | 28 | The Salinas
High defense has surrendered just 19 points in the last 28 quarters,
having posted 25 shutout quarters since losing to Alvarez 8 games
        ago. |
      | 14 | Palma's 17-7
first round loss to Bellarmine snapped a string of 14 consecutive years
the Chieftains had made it to at least the CCS football semifinals.
Palma also snapped a 6-game CCS playoff winning streak. The Chieftains
have now participated in the CCS playoffs for 18 consecutive years,
winning 9 section titles in the process. |
      | 10 | Salinas High
has now won 10 consecutive playoff games on the field. The
Cowboys last loss dates all the way back to 1983, a 31-14 first round
defeat administered by  Santa Clara in the CCS D1 playoffs. Three
Salinas victories and a CCS title were forfeited in 1993 for using an
        ineligible player. |
      | 5 | San Lorenzo
Valley's Brian Davilla has been a one-man wrecking crew on the football
field. In his last 4 games, Davilla has rushed 28 times for 286 yards
and 3 touchdowns, caught 13 passes for 311 yards and 4 touchdowns, and
        intercepted 5 passes. |
      | 4 | Salinas high
running back Cody Baker has quietly put together a very impressive
second half of the football season. Baker has broken the 100 yard
barrier in 4 of his last 5 games, racking up 542 rushing yards
        and 7 touchdowns |
      | 2.4 | Stanford-bound
T.C. Ostrander tossed a 19 yard touchdown pass with just 2.4 seconds
remaining in the game to rally the Bears for a stunning 31-27 victory
        over Aptos. |
      | 2 | Quad-league
playoff teams picked up a paltry 2
        victories in the first round
of this year's CCS playoffs. Just last season the MBL, MTAL and SCCAL
combined for a 6-3 first round record, eventually leading to 5 of 8
CCS finals teams and 3 CCS championships. |
