Week 7 By The Numbers

278 Penalty bug: Santa Cruz  committed 28 penalties for 278 penalty yards in their last two games, but both games resulted in Cardinal wins. In the two preceding games in which Santa Cruz went 0-2, the Cardinals committed only 7 penalties for 37 yards.
221  In his first 5 varsity games, Seaside defensive standout Henry Utumapu had just 2 carries for 3 yards. In his last 2 games, Utumapu has 28 carries for 221 yards. The punishing sophomore with a major-college physique may already be the top all-around player in the quad-league area.
110 Watsonville running back Shawn Benjamin has individually scored more points (110)  this season than nine quad-league area teams.
65 Last season Palma limited Salinas to 34 plays while executing 61 themselves en rout to a 26-19 victory over the Cowboys. In a role reversal on the field and scoreboard, Salinas ran 65 plays Friday night, limiting Palma to a 3+ year low 30 offensive plays while handing the Chieftains a 24-13 loss.
4 Salinas defensive back Travis Dozier intercepted 4 passes in the Cowboy's 24-13 victory over Palma.
2 SLV Tight End Waylon Prather caught 2 passes in a 26-7 victory over Soquel. What makes this impressive? Both catches went for long touchdowns, as Prather finished with a monster 101 yards and 2 touchdowns (47 and 54 yards) on just 2 catches.
0 Carmel has now allowed 0 first quarter points through 7 games, and has still allowed only 8 points this year in the first half.
0 Alisal has scored 0 first quarter points through 7 games. But the Trojans are quickly becoming masters of the second half,  having overcome 14 and 27 point deficits to win two of their last three games.
