Week 4 Notes and Key Stats

  • 17 of 26 quad-league football teams have records at or below .500 . 
  • Five local teams remain undefeated: Aptos (4-0), SLV (4-0), Watsonville (4-0),  Carmel (4-0) and Palma (4-0). All 5 teams rank among the top 7 in fewest  yards allowed.

  • The Sports Zone male and female Athlete of the Month contest begins WEDNESDAY  EVENING. A male and female athlete will be nominated from four regions: Salinas, South County, the Peninsula and San Benito County. Monterey Bay Prep Report visitors will be able to vote on-line for their choice. After a one-week voting period, the male and female winner will each receive a $100 gift certificate to the Sports Zone.  Stay tuned! 

 

Week 4 By The Numbers

336 San Lorenzo Valley quarterback Mike Crisler has thrown for 336 yards and 5 touchdowns in his last 2 games. 
249 Carmel running back Chris Brown had a career day vs. in the Padres 27-6 victory over Stevenson, rushing for 249 yards and 3 touchdowns on 29 carries. Brown now has double (60) the number of carries vs.  the rest of the Carmel team (27). 
85 Monterey quarterback Jamael Quimby exploded for an 85 yard touchdown in the third quarter of the Toreadors 26-8 loss to Palma. Quimby's run accounted for over one half of Monterey's total offensive output. Discarding the long  run, Monterey was held to 81 yards on 41 rushing attempts. Monterey attempted only one pass in the game.
63 Alvarez held previously unbeaten Salinas to just 63 yards rushing on 40 attempts in the Eagles' 32-20 victory over the host Cowboys. The Alvarez defense also forced 5 Salinas turnovers 
33 Through 4 games, undefeated Watsonville has 33 yards passing on one completion.
32 Gonzales held Soledad to 32 yards of total offense in the Spartan's 47-0 victory over the Aztecs. Soledad was held to -5 yards rushing yards on 44 attempts.
14 Monterey now has an area-worst 14 game losing streak. 
10 Hollister has been shut out 10 of the 16 quarters played so  far this season.
7 Watsonville place-kicker Eric Tapia nailed 7 extra points vs. Soquel, equaling or surpassing the scoring output of 7 local teams last weekend.
5 Harbor and Oakland  attempted 5 two-point conversion attempts - none were successful. No extra point attempts were made in the game.
0 Carmel and Watsonville have surrendered 0 first quarter points.
0 Soquel and Watsonville combined for 0 passing yards in just three attempts in the Wildcatz' 49-6 romp over the visiting Knights.
