St. Francis S.C.P. Notes and Quotes
In the first round of the Gilroy Mustang Tournament St. Francis Central Coast Varsity Girls basketball team put a scare into host Gilroy. Trading leads throughout the first half, St. Francis jumped out to a 8 point lead early in the third quarter and held onto to the lead until 3 minutes into the fourth quarter. The lead saw several changes up until the last minute when Gilroy went up by four for good. The young St. Francis team was led by Freshman Katherine Brown who scored 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks. Also contributing were Sophomore Annette Ruvalcaba who had 12 points and 9 rebounds before fouling out in the last minute of the game, Junior Nicole Smith who had 11 points and 5 rebounds and junior point guard Jessica Ryan who had 10 assists, 4 steals and one block. The Sharks who have been having free throw trouble all season, went 8 for 22 from the charity line. For the Gilroy Mustangs Jessica Grope had 14 points, Katherine Hussey scored 13 and point guard Kristen Campos had 10 points In the second round of the Mustang Tournament St. Francis will face North Monterey County Condors at 5:00 PM on Friday who lost at the buzzer to the Watsonville Wildcatz.
