The Harbor Pirates won their home opener over the Pajaro Valley Grizzlies 3-1. The Pirates applied significant pressure in the first 10 mins of the match, with two break away opportunities and three corners, but came up empty. However, Junior Sonja Hulphers opened up the scoring in the 28th min by scoring off a pass from Sophomore Chloe Simon. The second half began similarly with Harbor creating many attacking opportunities. Junior Olivia Chen extended the lead in the 55th min on a counter attack, assisted by Hulphers, by chipping the PV Goalkeeper from 25 yards out. Pajaro Valley battled back and scored in the 73rd min, but Harbor responded a few mins later with a break down the right wing. Hulphers beat the defensive line and crossed to Sophomore Ariana Garcia-Hernandez for the final tally. "We played with physicality, and linked passes to create many opportunities. Juniors Zoe Soenen and Anika Dawson were a force in the middle of the field. If we play like this going forward, we should be a tough side all season." Harbor (3-2-0) hosts Monte Vista Christian (0-3-1) on Monday night at 6:00. |
