Scotts Valley Notes and Quotes
On November 29, 2012 the Scotts Valley Falcons varsity girls soccer team traveled to Monterey to play Notre Dame Salinas Spirits at Monterey Peninsula College. The Spirits entered the game with a record of 1 win and 0 losses after defeating Kirby Prep in their opening game by a score of 4 to 0. The lady Falcons entered the game with a record of 0 wins, 0 losses and 1 tie after playing Monta Vista Cupertino to a tie in our opener.

At the start of the game both teams tried to settle into their offense and control the ball. In the 9th minute of the game the lady Falcons worked for a corner kick. Freshman Emmy Koflanovich took the corner and placed a perfect pass to the front of the Spirits goal. Senior captain Madison Black broke free of her defender and placed a perfect header into the back of the net for our first goal. A second goal for the Falcons came in the 21st minute on another corner this time from junior Lena Gustafsson to freshman Anna Payne who kicked the pass into the net by a diving Spirits goalkeeper. The Falcons continued to be persistent and relentless with the offensive attack using our speed and control of the ball. Our Falcons third goal came in the 32nd minute when junior Darby McFall made a run down the right side of the field and crossed the ball to the front of the Spirits net. Junior Nicole LaPorte was racing down the field from her outside midfield position, trapped the pass at the left side of the back-post and tapped it into the net for a score. The half ended with the Falcons having 12 shots on goal while the Spirits were held without a shot. The score at the half was Falcons 3 to the Spirits 0.

The second half was played with more aggressive play, solid defense and an offense that made outstanding runs. At the 45th minute our Falcons again worked for a corner kick. Freshman Emmy Koflanovich again placed a perfect pass to the front of the Spirits net where senior captain Madison Black jumped into the air and deflected the ball by a header into the left side of the net. In the 60th minute junior Lena Gustafsson received a pass from freshman Audrey Liebenberg and quickly drilled the ball into the net for our fifth goal. The Falcon girls worked hard to control the ball and use their speed and ball skills to set the tempo. The game ended with the Falcons having 6 more shots on goal while the Spirits had 1 shot on goal in the second half. The game ended with the score being Falcons 5 to the Spirits 0.

Congratulations lady Falcons on your first win of the 2012/13 season. We have a young team with seasoned veterans. We look forward to a challenging preseason and league. We will work harder on our endurance, speed, skills and chemistry. Our season just started and we have a bright future a head of us. Our next game will be on Saturday, December 1st, 2012 2:30 PM at Mountain View High School against the lady Spartans.
