The Scotts Valley Falcons girls varsity soccer team continued their play at the Tri Valley Soccer Tournament on Tuesday, December 20th. The third scheduled game of the tournament was going to be another challenging test for our team because we were placed against one of the teams in the Open Invitational Division. Our opponent was against the El Camino Real Conquistadors from Woodland Hills (Los Angeles Area), California. The Conquistadors have a student enrollment of 3500 and had a 2011 preseason record of 4 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie going into the tournament. The Conquistadors final record in 2010-11 was 21 wins, 3 losses and 3 ties. The Conquistadors have a powerful girls varsity soccer program and are well respected in the State of California for their soccer. The first half had the Falcons coming out and competing with the talented opponents. In the first 30 minutes the Falcons put up a fight and managed the game pretty well. The Conquistadors slowly wore down our Falcons with swing passes while working the ball down the field. The Conquistadors managed to put 5 shots on goal in the first half while the Falcons were unable to get a shot on goal. The half ended with the score being, Falcons 0 to the Conquistadors 0. The second half started with the Falcons trying to manage control of the ball. The Conquistadors were very strong, fast, skilled and had a good game plan. In the 49th and 60th minute of the game the Conquistadors were able to find the back of the Falcons goal with a great shot from 35 yards out and a very well placed pass that was settled and kicked in from approximately 10 yards out on the left side of the Falcons goalkeeper. The Falcons tried to regroup and adjust to the talented Conquistadors. The adversity continued when another senior captain was injured. Our team did fairly well though and held them to no more goals. The second half had the Falcons with 2 shots on goal while the Conquistadors had 5 more shots on goal. The final score ended up being, Conquistadors 2 to the Falcons 0. Falcons having a good game were goalkeeper junior captain Emily Johnson. Also playing very well was sweeper senior captain Jordin Carlson, stopper senior captain Kalynn Morano and forward junior Kacey Lilly. Having a good game at the midfield positions were junior captain Madison Black, senior Ranae Maloney and sophomore Lena Gustafsson. Forward senior Sonja Gustafsson also had a good game. |
