On January 27th 2011 the St Francis Sharks traveled to Scotts Valley to play the Falcons on their home field. The weather was clear and the field conditions were fair at best. The Sharks entered the game with a season record of 2 wins, 9 losses and 1 tie. The Sharks had a record of 0 wins and 6 losses in the SCCAL. The young Sharks are hard working and were out to challenge the Falcons players. The Falcons were down several key players who stayed out of the game while nursing their injuries and bodies back to good health. The young Falcons were ready to give their all in the game. The first game between these two teams on January 4th this season had the Falcons winning 7 to 0 against the Sharks. The Falcons came out in the first half and tried to control the ball on the rutty, hard and patchy field. The Falcons were not getting their touch on the ball and had problems building a consistent and coordinated attack. The Falcons scored in the 6th minute when senior captain Keara McCullough set up a great pass into junior captain Jordin Carlson who punched the ball past the Sharks goalkeeper and into the net for a score. The Falcons continued controlling the tempo and putting shots on goal that were stopped by the Sharks goalkeeper. The Falcons scored in the 39th minute when Jordin Carlson sent in a precise pass where junior Taylor Rohde took the pass and kicked the ball into the net. The first half ended with the Falcons having 8 shots on goal while the Sharks were held to 0 shots on goal. The first half ended with the score being, Falcons 2 to Sharks 0. The second half was full of strong play by both sides trying to mount an attack. The Falcons again controlled the ball in their half of the field putting numerous shots on the Sharks goal that were stopped by the talented and busy Sharks goalkeeper. The Falcons scored in the 71st minute when Jordin Carlson passed into the middle where sophomore Madison Black settled the ball and fired a shot into the Sharks goal. The Sharks gave the Falcons all they could handle while playing well. The Sharks goalkeeper had an excellent game saving 10 more Falcon shots on goal in the second half while the Sharks were held to 0 shots on goal. The game ended with the score being Falcons 3 to Sharks 0. The Falcon forwards had a good game with constant pressure on the Sharks defense. The Falcon forwards were making runs on the goal all game and massed countless shots towards the Sharks goal that missed their mark. The forwards were led by Jordin Carlson, Taylor Rohde, sophomore Jessica DuBridge and junior Jaemi Mansfield. Jordin Carlson had a good game with 1 goal, 2 assists and 5 shots on the Sharks goal. Taylor Rohde also had a good game scoring 1 goal and putting 5 shots on the Sharks goalkeeper. The midfield had a good game while controlling the middle, playing aggressive, winning the ball in the air, settling the ball, making runs down the wings and initiating a relentless attack. The Falcon midfielders were led by sophomore Madison Black, junior Ranae Maloney, senior captain Keara McCullough, junior Jessica Romeo, junior Kathryn Balch, sophomore Olivia Gonzalez and senior Pim Tamavimoke. Madison Black had an excellent game giving her all with her tenacity, skills and speed. The Falcon goalkeeper was senior Ali Ayers who had a good game managing the defense and recorded another shutout for the team. The Falcon defense was once again like a solid wall to their opposition. The defense rarely let the Sharks past midfield and regularly stopped the ball and initiated a counter attack. The defense was led by senior captain Aly Bothman, sophomore Rachel DuBridge, sophomore Kacey Lilly and freshman Megan Keating. The Falcon defenders did a great job helping the team to our 9th shutout of the season and once again not allowing a shot on goal for an entire game.. |
