On Wednesday, January 4th, the Saint Francis Central Coast Sharks Women's Varsity Girls Basketball opened their inaugural league season with a victory over the Watsonville Wildcats 55-33. The Sharks stingy defense held the Wildcats to single digit scoring in three of the four quarters. The Sharks were lead by 6-1 Freshman center Katherine Brown who, despite a slow start, came on to score 26 points, including 17 in the second quarter. Brown stats included 23 rebounds (a Shark single game record) and her eighth double-double of the season. Junior Forward Erin Laverone completed the inside attack for the Sharks by compiling 12 points and 13 rebounds, her second double-double of the season and her sixth game in the last seven where she had at least 10 rebounds. Also contributing for the Sharks were Junior point guard Jessica Ryan who had 5 points, 6 assists, 3 steals and 1 block; Sophomore Guard Annette Ruvalcaba who had 5 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 block and 1 steal; and Sophomore point guard Jasmine Oliveres who had 6 assists and 2 steals. The Wildcats were lead by Sarah Kulick who had 16 points, including four from beyond the 3 point arc. Also for the Wildcats, Laura Gomez had 6 and Jaimie Barrera had 4 points.
