On Friday the thirteenth, the Scotts Valley Falcons traveled to the Borina Athletic Center to take on the Saint Francis Central Coast Sharks in a women's varsity basketball game. The Sharks fell behind early in the first quarter and rallied to end the quarter 20 -13, on 10 points from Freshman center Katherine Brown. The Sharks ended the first half on with a 46 -21 lead on strong play from Brown which included 14 points, 10 rebounds and a block. The Falcons opened the third quarter strong holding the Sharks scoreless for several minutes and Brown picking up 3 fouls and fouling out for the first time this season early in the third quarter. The Falons came out strong closing the gap to 6 points in the 4th quarter with three minutes left, when the Sharks defense kicked in with 5 blocks and 13 rebounds, along with their offense scoring 10 quick points put the game out of reach for the Falcons. The Sharks were led by Freshmen Rochelle Welsh with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 1 block and Katherine Brown with 14 points, including 8 for 8 from the free throw line, 13 rebounds and 1 block in slightly over two quarters. Also for the Sharks, Juniors Nicole Smith had 13 points, two blocks, Erin Laverone with 5 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks, Celia Avilla with 2 points, Rene Gonzalez with 2 points and Jessica Ryan with 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 steals and 3 blocks. Sophomores Annette Ruvalcaba had 9 points, 5 assist, 3 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks and Jasmine Oliveres had 3 points.

For the Falcons, Kate Lenz led all scorers with 16 points, Cambria Shapiro had 10 points, Lana Ebert and Brittany Hunter each had 6 points, Stephanie Priest had 5 points and Jackie Joyce had 2 points.

Next up for the Sharks will be the undefeated Santa Cruz team on Tuesday night.
