Scotts Valley Notes and Quotes
On February 4, 2010 the Scotts Valley Falcons played the Harbor Pirates at Aptos High School in Aptos. The weather was cloudy with heavy rain but good field conditions on the Aptos turf. The Pirates entered the game with a season record of 6 wins, 3 losses and 2 ties. The Pirates had a league record in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League (SCCAL) of 2 wins, 3 losses and 2 ties. The Harbor team is very physical, talented and well coached.

Both teams started the game with intensity and the will to mount an offensive attack. The Falcons scored in the 4th minute when Kalynn Morano kicked a long pass breakaway to Jordin Carlson who fired the ball into the net past the Harbor goalie. The Falcons scored in the 18th minute when Aly Bothman sent a pass past the Harbor defense on another breakaway to Jordin Carlson who then put the ball into the back of the Harbor net. The Pirates then scored on a free kick from approximately 25 yards out in the 21st minute. The Falcons rebounded quickly and scored in the 30th minute when Michelle Hunter knocked in the ball after assists from Jordin Carlson and Jaemi Mansfield. The first half had the Falcons with 5 shots on goal while the Pirates had 1 shot on goal. The half ended with the score being, Scotts Valley 3 to Harbor 1.

The second half had both teams coming out in the heavy rain while trying to control the ball and tempo. The Pirates scored on a penalty kick in the 54th minute when a foul was called in the box on a Falcon player. The Falcons again came back and put pressure on the Pirate defense. The Falcons scored in the 69th minute when Jaemi Mansfield broke free and shot the ball into the net after a beautiful assist from Keara McCullough. The second half had the Falcons with 4 shots on goal while the Pirates had 3 shots on goal. The game ended with the final score being, Scotts Valley 4 to Harbor 2.

The Falcon defense once again had a stellar performance while playing with grit and tenacity against the skilled Pirate players. The defense gave the Pirates all they could handle while stopping their attack. The defense was led by senior captain Brittany Kuo, senior Kelsey Baskovich, sophomore Kalynn Morano and freshman Kacey Lilly. Freshman goalkeeper Emily Johnson played the first 20 minutes, with no saves and no goals allowed before leaving the game with an injury. Junior goalkeeper Ali Ayers entered the game and had 2 saves while registering the win.

The Falcon midfielders played a hard fought game against the highly touted and talented Pirate midfield. The Falcon midfielders were led by senior captain Kailey Payne, sophomore captain Jordin Carlson, freshman Madison Black, junior captain Aly Bothman, senior Amy McDowell, sophomore Jaemi Mansfield and sophomore Ranae Maloney.

The Falcon forwards played a fantastic game with hard earned runs that put relentless pressure on the Pirates. The forwards were led by junior Keara McCullough, senior Michelle Hunter, senior Riley McFall and sophomore Kathryn Balch.

The Falcon players continue to play with heart and spirit. The Falcons are playing well as a team and continue to fight through their adversities. The Falcons now have a season record of 11 wins, 2 losses and 2 ties. The Falcons continue to be the leader in the SCCAL with a record of 7 wins, 0 losses and 1 tie.
