Scotts Valley Notes and Quotes
On February 2, 2010 the Scotts Valley Falcons played the Aptos Mariners at Aptos High School. The weather was cloudy skies, dry with good field conditions. The Mariners entered the game with a season record of 8 wins, 4 losses and 3 ties. The Mariners had a league record in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League (SCCAL) of 3 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie. The Mariners have a very talented squad that plays with intensity. The Falcons were with out starters Emily Payne and Kailey Payne due to injuries. The young Falcons had several additional players who were nursing injuries but played.

The first half started with both teams hitting the field, trying to control the ball and mount an attack. The Falcons put several good runs on the Mariners goal but the ball was kept out of the net. The first half had the Falcons with 7 shots on goal while the Mariners had 2 shots on goal. The half ended with the score being, Scotts Valley 0 to Aptos 0.

The second half had both teams playing well once again. The Falcons again put relentless pressure on the Mariners defense and produced several shots on the goal. The Mariners defense held and did not give up a goal by the Falcons. The second half had the Falcons with another 10 shots on goal while the Mariners had 5 shots on goal. The game ended with the score being, Scotts Valley 0 to Aptos 0.

The Falcons forwards had a great game despite not being able to score a goal. The forwards put constant pressure with their runs and shots on goal. The Falcon forwards were led by senior Michelle Hunter, junior Keara McCullough, sophomore Taylor Rohde, sophomore Jaemi Mansfield and senior Riley McFall.

The Falcon midfielders played a superb game controlling the middle of the field most of the game, initiating the attack and putting shots on goal. The midfield was led by sophomore captain Jordin Carlson, freshman Madison Black, junior captain Aly Bothman, senior Amy McDowell, sophomore Ranae Maloney and sophomore Kathryn Balch.

The Falcon defense was once again the anchor in stopping the oppositions attack. On several occasions the defense stopped the Mariner attack, countered and initiated a Falcon attack. The defense was led by senior captain Brittany Kuo, senior Kelsey Baskovich, sophomore Kalynn Morano and freshman Kacey Lilly. Freshman goalkeeper Emily Johnson had a solid game with 7 saves while registering her 10th shutout in a row and her 11th shutout in 14 games this season.

Because of the injuries there were several lady Falcons used in different positions through out the game to maintain the defense and our attack. The Falcons now have a season record of 10 wins, 2 losses and 2 ties while running their record in the SCCAL to 6 wins, 0 losses and 1 tie. The Mariner ladies played a very hard fought game.
