| Seaside opened up their league with a 2 to 0 shutout of Pajaro Valley. The first half saw plenty of opportunities for Seaside to score by Samantha Morales and Shiel Morales. But Seaside could not finish before the half. Seaside's defense dominated the both halves by shutting down Pajaro Valley's leading striker Hannah Faust. Beverly Phan and LeeAnne Sanks kept the ball on the PV half for most of the game. Defensive leader Beverly Phan kept a tight offside trap that frustrated both coahes and players of PV. During the second half, Seaside's forwards pressed the defense, finally putting in a nice goal by Sheila Morales in the back corner of the goal. She was fed by a cross from Amanda Jennings. Later in the 60th minute, Amanda Jennings scored on a free kick outside the box. Solid defense,good passing and pressing by the offense ensured a home win for the Spartans. Sportsmanship awards went to the goalie of Pajaro Valley and #4, Beverly Phan. |
