The SCCAL league game was played at Aptos High under clear skies and dry field conditions. Santa Cruz has a fairly balanced team of talented underclassmen and skilled senior leadership. Santa Cruz has a great wealth of talent and is progressing with their team chemistry. The game started out with both teams playing aggressive. Aptos scored their 1st goal in the 12th minute of play. Santa Cruz picked up their pace and began to attack the net when senior Cesar Aguilar scored a goal in the 24th minute after an assist from freshman John Chronopoulos. Play continued with Santa Cruz putting relentless pressure on the Aptos goal when freshman John Chronopoulos was taken down in the box for a penalty. Freshman John Chronopoulos then scored a goal on the penalty kick in the 32nd minute of play. The half ended - Santa Cruz 2 to Aptos 1. The second half had Aptos playing a man down because of a red card. Santa Cruz freshman John Chronopoulos again scored in the 44th minute after an assist from sophomore Ethan Gomez. Aptos then scored after a cross then a header into the net at the 54th minute. Santa Cruz responded in the 79th minute when sophomore Ethan Gomez scored the goal after an assist from senior Shakaim Redrovan. The game ended - Santa Cruz 4 to Aptos 2. Senior captain, goalkeeper Kevin Halasz was a strong presence at the net for Santa Cruz and had 6 goalie saves during the game. The Santa Cruz defense was steady and played a good game. The defense had 5 steals during the game and countered most of the Aptos attack. The defense was lead by senior captain Trevor Ross (sweeper), junior Diego Pio (stopper), freshman Slater Meehan (FB) and freshman Tanner Akol (FB). The Santa Cruz forwards, senior Cesar Aguilar and freshman John Chronopoulos had a fantastic game putting pressure on the Aptos goal with their speed and physical play. Santa Cruz midfielders, senior Shakaim Redrovan, junior Felipe Camberos, junior Filimon Richardson and sophomore Ethan Gomez had quality touches on the ball while controlling the middle and building the attack on the Aptos goal. |
