The SCCAL league game was played at San Lorenzo Valley (SLV) High School under clear skies and dry field conditions. Santa Cruz was without starters, senior Gerardo Hernandez (midfield), senior captain Kevin Halasz (goalkeeper) and junior Felipe Camberos (midfield). The game started with Santa Cruz scoring in the 13th minute when freshman John Chronopoulos fired in a shot after an assist from senior Vince Cheung. Santa Cruz quickly scored again in the 16th minute when senior Cesar Aguilar knocked in a goal after the assist from senior Vince Cheung. Santa Cruz had 5 shots on goal the first half while SLV had 1 shot on goal. The score at half time was - Santa Cruz 2 to SLV 0. The second half started with Santa Cruz picking up the tempo with a constant attack on the SLV goal. Santa Cruz scored in the 59th minute when senior Cesar Aguilar kicked the ball into the net after the assist from freshman Giovanni Giattino. Santa Cruz had 12 shots on goal the second half while SLV had 0 shots on goal. The score ended - Santa Cruz 3 to SLV 0. The Santa Cruz goalkeeper, freshman Tanner Akol had 1 save during the game and the shutout. The defense once again was solid on shutting down the SLV attack with 1 shot on goal the whole game. The defense had 6 steals and was lead by senior captain Trevor Ross (sweeper), senior Vince Cheung (FB), junior Diego Pio (stopper) and freshman Slater Meehan (FB). The Santa Cruz offensive attack put 17 shots on goal. The offense had speed, crisp passing and a focus on the SLV goal. The consistent attack was lead by forwards, senior Cesar Aguilar (2 goals and 5 shots on the SLV goal) and freshman John Chronopoulos (1 goal and 3 shots on the SLV goal).
