Santa Catalina School Notes and Quotes
For the third time this season we saw the Cougars dominate the game, yet only walk away with a tie. However, a tie in this match means that the Cougars only need to win the rest of their games to be league champions! This will take some effort, but well within their grasp.

The game got off to a shocking start when Stevenson launched a long high ball from midfield, apparently miss-struck, only to have it drop in over Sarah and into the net in the very first minute!

Fortunately the Cougars took this in stride, and in the 5th minute won a corner kick. Kate sent in a fine delivery and Blair put it in the back of the net – 1-1! For the rest of the half Stevenson had two chances on the Cougar goal, while the Cougars pressured with 5 attempts, maintaining solid control of the half.

The second half saw Stevenson open at a furious pace. Their speed was remarkable, but their control lacking. They had one chance in the 42nd minute before the Cougars rallied, confining the play mostly to the midfield. Daniela gave the Cougars the necessary boost in the 51st minute off a nice pass from Blair.

Play remained somewhat 50-50 for awhile with Kate, Daniela and Eliza all having opportunities. Stevenson gained the upper hand in the 69th minute, pouncing on a poor clearance and making it 2-2!

Stevenson suddenly ramped up their game and for 10 minutes dominated possession, but the Cougar back four of Laura, Isabelle, Jess and Ashley held firm. The tide began to turn, and in the last 10 minutes of the game the Cougars launched a 10 shot barrage on the Stevenson goal, including one shot from Kate hitting the post!

Despite the Cougar frenzy at the end, they had to settle for the tie. It had been a well fought game, and the Cougars were feeling confident for the rest of the season.
