| Despite the stinging loss against San Benito two days prior, Blair and Mady still injured, and April and Jackie still carrying the torch for Cross Country, the Cougars came to Alisal focused and determined to give this game all they had. Right from the kick-off the Cougars took the game to Alisal. Daniela Aiello had a shot on goal within 5 minutes, and Kate Wright another 5 minutes later! Continued pressure on the Alisal defense gave Kate the opportunity in the 23rd minute to open the scoring! Two minutes later she was denied a second goal! Daniela continued the barrage on the Alisal goal with two more shots in the next ten minutes. With only two minutes to the end of the half, Alisal found a way through the Cougar defense to tie it up for the half! The second half saw a lot of back and forth action with the Cougars working through their fatigue to limit the Alisal options. Sarah Griffith made the key saves to keep the Trojans out of the net in the second half, and the Cougars settled for the tie despite out shooting their opponents 7 shots to 4. Overall a good result - the Cougars began to come together as a team offensively and defensively, and great things are expected as we come up to full strength! GO COUGARS! |
