Santa Catalina School Notes and Quotes
What a game to keep the fans on the edge of their seat for 80 minutes!

A damp, but relatively mild day, saw the Cougars repeatedly frustrated in their attempts to score! A total of 28 shots were fired at the PG goal. We hit the frame four times, and the PG goalie offered some stunning saves. The PG players showed surprising quickness, and consistently were able to deny our shots - we forced eleven corner kicks, possibly a record, yet it was as if there was a force field around their goal, deflecting all our efforts!

In the first half, the Cougars had eleven shots on the PG goal. In contrast, Sarah Wright had only to deal with one straightforward shot from PG. PG was fast and physical in disrupting our game, and the referees seemed to let it go.

The second half saw the Cougars get off seventeen shots! The game was getting even rougher, too the point when in the 50th minute, Sarah Wright was kneed in the head after winning possession of the ball in her penalty area. No call was given against the PG player! Dana Winn stepped up to the Goalkeeper position, making two saves, (the only two in the second half), including one from a very dangerous freekick from about 25 yards in the 69th minute.

Sarah Wright was not out for more than a few minutes, and enjoyed her first opportunity to play on the field this season. She had one good chance on goal, but like everyone else it was denied.

The tension seemed palpable - could we tie, or even lose this game despite all our efforts?

Sarah Wright elected to go back to goalie in the 70th minute. the Cougars attacked down the left, down the right, they moved the ball all around the midfield, looking for an opening. PG fought to deny every opportunity!

In the 76th minute, Kate and Blair combined in the middle, saw Jackie attacking space on the left, delivered the pass, and GOAL! What excitement! What a relief for the Cougars! Two minutes later, Jackie (again) attacked down the left, this time with the ball and crossed to Kate in the center to deliver the final blow on PG.

What a game!
