Santa Catalina School Notes and Quotes
A very played opening game from the Cougars. The Prospect High Panthers were physically bigger and faster than the young Santa Catalina squad, but we immediately took the game to them, and were rewarded with a goal in the 10th minute. The game went back and forth for the next 29 minutes, the large field pushing everyone to their limits. The Panthers won a corner kick in the last minute of the half, and their star player sent it directly into our net!

The second half saw the Panthers opening hard and strong against the Cougars, they chased every ball, and launched attack after attack down their left side. The Cougars absorbed all the pressure with great work from the back four and solid saves from Sarah Wright. After about 20 minutes, the Panthers lost their momentum and the Cougars came back scoring in the 68th minute. Attacking pressure gave us a throw-in deep in their half which found Kate in the penalty area. She turned and drove the ball into the net! the Cougars maintained control of much of the rest of the match until in the dying minutes the Panthers won another corner kick. Yet again, at the last moment, they pulled the score back to even. Immediately the Cougars pounced winning their own corner kick, but just narrowly missed the goal.

Overall, a very encouraging result, with everyone getting plenty of playing time, including seven players playing Varsity for the first time.
