A steady rain fell throughout today's match, but nothing could put a damper on this game! Jess Foster and Katie Goodson were moved up from JV, as injuries from the Sacred Heart game had several players on the bench, including regular starters Kate and Danielle. The Cougars played the 80 minutes with no substitutes! Harbor opened the scoring early off a corner kick, but the Cougars took the game straight back at them. Despite five shots on the Harbor goal we could not find the back of the net. Against the run of play, Harbor scored in the 39th minute off of another corner kick. This did not slow the Cougars. In the 47th minute, they won a free kick about 45 yards out. April send it in to just inside the 18, where Blair flicked it on past the goalie for a stunning goal. Pressure continued on the Harbor goal with a total of five more shots, but we could not pull it back! The Cougars showed incredible fortitude and stamina when you consider the fact that this was their third straight game in three days. Learning to play solid soccer despite fatigue and adversity is all part of the training plan for this season. Jess and Katie did a fantastic job stepping up to Varsity and going head to head against a very strong team. The Cougars looked like champions out there! |
