The Cougars had a frustrating night down on the hard and fast field at King City. Despite out shooting King City 21 to 5, we could only find the net once! We had numerous very good chances for a decisive victory, but the ball did not cooperate for us. King City had one really good chance and made it count! The Cougars dominated 75% of the game, laying siege to the King City goal. King City showed remarkable speed in pressuring our players and getting numbers back into their penalty area to disrupt our attacks. They would launch very fast counter attacks too, but the Cougars dealt with them effectively. We opened the scoring in the 10th minute when a combination play between Meredith, Ryann and Blair quickly moved the ball up the left, giving Meredith the opportunity to penetrate past King City's defense and put it in the net. King City managed a reply 3 minutes later with a long diagonal ball from 30 yards that went over a well positioned Sarah Wright into the far upper corner of the net. That was the last time King City had a clear view of out goal, but we could not break the tie. A lot of very hard work from everyone on the field, and while we may have deserved a win, such is the game of soccer to thwart the best of intentions! |
