The Cougars finished their regular season games with a comfortable win over Gonzales. The first half saw Gonzales attacking a few times, but also leaving themselves open for devasatating counter attacks. The Cougars put away six goals in the first half. In contrast, the second half saw Gonzales pull all their players back into their defensive third, physically blocking many of the Cougars shots. Scoring opened in the second minute with Meredith and Ryann combining down the left for Ryann to put it in the net. Ryann had three scoring opportunities in the first five minutes! Then Kate Wright sent a ball through to April for goal number two. Katie sent in a powerful free kick in the 19th minute for Ryann to finish. Kate and Meredith both made unassisted goals in the next ten minutes. April finished the scoring for the first half following through on a pass from Kendall. The Cougars maintained pressure on the Gonzales goal throughout the second half, but finding the net was not as easy. Katie scored directly off her second free kick in the 48th minute, then hit the bar with another free kick minutes later! In the 78th minute, April and Blair combined to give Blair our final goal of the game. While not a game to challenge the Cougars, everyone had lots of playing time, or experimented in a different position. Many had the opportunity to score. It was a fun and relatively relaxing way to finish the season. We start work for CCS on Monday! |
