Santa Catalina School Notes and Quotes
Santa Catalina opened a little slow and tentative after a three week break (one week of finals and 2 weeks vacation). King City had a lot of speed, good first touch and passed well. After about 20 minutes of back and forth play, Santa Catalina seemed to find their rythm and begin to put coordinated pressure on the King City goal. Kate Wright opened the scoring for Santa Catalina in the 28th minute, winning the ball in mid-field, dribbling into the penalty area, launching a shot the the keeper could not hold, picking up the rebound and putting it in the back of the net. Four minutes later she won the ball again and dribbled up the left shooting and beating the keeper with Danielle driving it into the net for our second goal. Kate was again in the action at the 36th minute, passing the ball to Ryann, who moved up the right and finished in a typical stylish and powerful fashion! King City quickly kicked off and sent a low skidding ball bouncing off the post into our goal - our run of shut-outs was over!

The second half saw an energized King City working very hard to score. Shelby Carroll saw her first real action as Keeper, making 5 solid saves and preventing any more scoring from King City. Kaitlin, Katie, Sam, Laura and Sarah Armstrong all contributed to solid defensive work against a very mobile and fleet footed King City offense. Backed by a very hardworking midfield, Sarah Wright and Sarah Luksik spearheaded a powerful attack against King City up top, but KC'c defensive speed was a real challenge. Sarah Wright finally won possession inside the penalty area in the 69th minute, played a short ball back to Ryann who drove a fine shot into the back of the net. This clearly sealed our victory, and we controlled the rest of the game.
