| De La Torre Dominates in Pajaro Valley’s League-Opening Win Hemeria De La Torre delivered an all-around standout performance Wednesday, striking out 14 and hitting an inside-the-park home run to lead Pajaro Valley past Anzar 12–2 in the teams’ league opener. Anzar struck first in the opening inning, but Pajaro Valley answered immediately. A passed ball tied the game before De La Torre ripped an inside-the-park homer to give the Grizzlies a 3–1 lead they would not relinquish. The Grizzlies continued to build the advantage throughout the middle innings. Olivia Contreras added another inside-the-park home run in the fourth, scoring two runs, while Myah Diggs Lozano drove in a run with a single. Pajaro Valley also applied pressure on the bases, collecting five stolen bases, including multiple steals from Virginia Escobar and Jacqueline Alvarez. In the circle, De La Torre was in complete control, allowing just one hit and two runs over six innings while piling up 14 strikeouts. At the plate she also led the offense with three RBIs, finishing 2-for-2 alongside Annabell Ybarra, as Pajaro Valley opened league play with a convincing victory. |
