Freshman Kiyomi Dunlap dominated in the circle Tuesday, striking out 14 to lead Soquel past Monte Vista Christian 9–1. In just four starts, the left-hander now has 44 strikeouts, an electric beginning to her varsity career.
The Knights struck first in the second when an error brought home a run. Monte Vista Christian briefly tied the game in the fourth, but Soquel broke it open in the fifth. Eliza Stevens was hit by a pitch to force in a run, Sophia Kilby drew a bases-loaded walk, and another Mustang miscue plated two more to give the Knights a 5–1 lead.
At the plate, leadoff hitter Emma Niizawa paced Soquel with two hits, while Katelyn Corlett and Niizawa each drove in two runs. The Knights also showed patience at the plate with eight walks, including two each from Ellie Howell and Keilana Torres.
Monte Vista Christian managed just two hits against Dunlap, who went the distance and kept the Mustangs off balance throughout. Through her first four varsity starts, the freshman lefty has already piled up 44 strikeouts, establishing herself as a key force in the Knights’ rotation.
