North Monterey County held off St. Francis Monday, winning 10-7 in a back-and-forth game as senior Samantha Scharton continued her red-hot stretch at the plate.
Fresh off a record-setting performance last week — when she went 4-for-4 with four doubles to set the program’s single-game doubles record and already owning the school record for five stolen bases in a game — Scharton stayed locked in, going 4-for-4 again with a triple, double, and two singles to lead the Condors offense.
North Monterey County jumped out early with a five-run first inning sparked by hits from Ariana Jimenez, Scharton, and Sophia Ortiz. The Condors added more in the third behind RBI hits from Marley Watson and Makenzie Jones as the lineup produced 14 hits.
Ariana “Sky” Makela secured the win in relief, striking out 11 batters over 4.2 innings to help North Monterey County withstand the Sharks’ late push.
