Soquel opened its season in dominant fashion, shutting out North Monterey County 10–0 behind a no-hit performance from freshman Kiyomi Dunlap.
In her varsity debut, Dunlap struck out 13 over five innings and allowed just three walks, controlling the game from the circle.
The Knights set the tone early, capitalizing on a first-inning error before Sophia Kilby added an RBI double. In the third, Katie Niizawa launched a solo home run to left.
Katie and her cousin Emma Niizawa both made major contributions — the Niizawa cousins each had two hits and drove in two runs. Kilby also finished with two hits, and Eliza Stevens added two more as Soquel’s lineup stayed consistent throughout.
A complete team performance to open the year.
